A Maple Wing Nut; greeting with chimneys and adjusting with the moment 2021 Cast aluminium
The artworks are exhibited on the rooftop of Exhibition Laboratory building (B).
This is a contemplation on the paradoxes of time, informed through observing the simultaneous existences of built and natural mechanisms – a curious exploration of how connections unfold dependent on the individual situation.
I am absorbed by the movement of air ventilation turbines, the postures of whirlybird maple seeds traveling through time and space, the circular motions embedded in the threading of threaded rod and the fastening of wing nuts. The fixtures used in construction that are designed for accessible readjustment enthral me.
I am observing how these observations manifest a dot to dot interface that reflects what I naturally look at, as a way try to understand the spaces in which I am immersed – the acknowledgement of the stone beneath my feet and the embodiment of my body and the sky.
I thank the circumstances, the time and place for instigating the existence of an M80 scaled maple seed wing nut. Found on the rooftop of the Exhibition Laboratory, Merimiehenkatu 36, 00150 Helsinki, it greets the chimneys, the emblems of the roofs, blurring and encapsulating the communication of interior and exterior, and the mechanical processes and motions created by the wind.
The maple wingnut is now catching hold of being, existing together with the rooftop neighbourhoods and the passing of clouds.
